pFriem Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout is being evaluated as a Specialty Wood-Aged Beer (category 33B of the 2015 BJCP Beer Style Guidelines). For this category, the best examples have a "harmonious blend" between the base beer and the wood/spirits resulting in a flavorful, complex blend. ... Imperial Raspberry Vanilla Porter Aged In Whiskey-Cask-Finished Port Wine Barrels

Imperial Raspberry Vanilla Porter Aged In Whiskey-Cask-Finished Port Wine Barrels

Imperial Raspberry Vanilla Porter Aged In Whiskey-Cask-Finished Port Wine Barrels, Breckenridge Brewery
Description

This beer's story is best told through its barrels. Originally housing port wine for several years, these French oak casks were then used to finish a special version of whiskey from our friends at Breckenridge Distillery. They were then delivered to their final home on Brewery Lane to rest our Imperial Raspberry Vanilla Porter. A fresh raspberry addition to the brew complements the port wine, creating a jammy flavor and tart mouthfeel. Whiskey notes accentuate the smooth vanilla and robust porter character resulting in a delightfully strong and decadent treat!

This is not your typical farmhouse ale; a distinct Brettanomyces citrusy aroma and prevalent sourness sets this saison apart from typical examples. With extended oak aging among numerous microflorae, the wild character is evident upon the first whiff. Aromas of orange zest and restrained leather... Read More
