Sol Wit by Miel Brewery & Taproom was judged as BJCP Category 24A, Witbier.
Witbier is a traditional Belgian-style wheat beer, known for its use of coriander to achieve its zesty character. Unlike the better-known Belgian Trappist Ales, Witbier is a far more sessionable and refreshing beer. Sol Wit hits many stylistic notes, beginning with its aromas of coriander and orange peel. It is highly carbonated, and the escaping CO2 is also a notable component of the aroma profile. Linger awhile and this beer takes on a pleasant herbal scent. It is hazy yellow/orange in appearance, with a foamy white head that does not retain like it ought to. Still, it rouses well. This beer’s flavors also include coriander and herbal hop notes plus a peppery, spicy wheat character. The bitterness is substantial but well balanced. Its mouthfeel is both soft and prickly. Sol Wit is nice but may not please die-hard fans of the style. Preferably, get this one on tap to ensure it is as lively as possible.
