Barrel-Aged Hypnic Jerk

Barrel-Aged Hypnic Jerk

Louisiana

Barrel-Aged Hypnic Jerk, Gnarly Barley Brewing
Description

Our English Barleywine is bursting with complexity and rich maltiness. The 10.9% ABV is masked with a luscious body and toffee and caramel aromas. We aged a portion of it for a year in bourbon barrels, resulting in extra layers of dark caramel and oak. The whiskey overtones are the perfect compliment with just enough burn to keep this beer interesting.

This beer pours a hazy gold with orange hues creating an off-white head that lasts. Although darker than most (straight, non-dunkel Weissbiers) this one has the high notes of banana and clove that so characterizes the style. Moderate pilsner-malt sweetness comes through in the aroma as well as a... Read More

This beer pours with a light golden color and a fluffy white head. Fine bubbles randomly rise to the surface. The medium intensity hop aroma is of woodsy, floral, and some low amounts of pine, and grapefruit rind notes. Subtle fruity esters of peach and red raspberry notes possibly coming from... Read More
