Imperial Peanut Butter Korova Milk Porter by Gnarly Barley Brewing Co. is being judged according to the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for Spice, Herb or Vegetable Beer (Style 30A).

My glass arrives with what I originally believe to be a melted peanut butter cup! The peanut butter aroma is as huge as the 4” tall head and yet the medium sweet milk chocolate rises through this mountainous head to announce its presence. The frothy beige head persists nicely atop this somewhat murky dark brown ale. The flavor confirms my nose’s thoughts of melted peanut butter cup. This fine beverage is medium-full bodied with medium-high carbonation.

I detect a light saltiness to the peanut butter aroma, which adds to the complexity, and there are no perceivable hops or yeast esters. The head retains its thick persistence throughout. Back to the flavor, there is a light hop bitterness that attempts to cut through the chocolate peanut butter cup, and it does hold its own. Alas, the peanut butter cup element lasts into the finish of the medium-sweet finish. However, there is a drying component as I wait for my next mouthful.

There is no need to pair this beer with anything except another of its kind. But, if you must pair this beer try a vanilla ice cream scoop into the glass of this beer to create an amazing dessert beer float.
