Tangerine Space Machine by New Holland Brewing Co. was judged according to the BJCP style guidelines for category 21C, Hazy IPA. The beer is presented with an an almost opaque haziness and orange-amber hue while topped by a creamy eggshell foam that lasts. The aroma is strikingly citrusy with orange, mandarin and a bit of honeysuckle sweetness coming through. It is very juicy indeed, with a modest whiff of malty white bread character appearing late.

The flavor largely mimics the nose with strong orange/clementine sweetness that mostly overpowers the reserved bitterness in the mid-palate. The finish is long, creamy and quite orange juic-like. Despite the very obvious citrus flavors, the beer does not come across as all that hoppy, unlike many hazy IPAs made with massive whirlpool additions. The mouthfeel is medium, but the beer is delicately finished with only enough sweetness to keep it from being actually sweet, partly due to a lingering soft bitterness that comes along in the aftertaste. There is a hint of astringency, somewhat orange zest-like, which helps to dry and balance the beer, and I, for one, appreciate it. Overall, this is a nice and approachable hazy IPA with strong orange flavors packaged into a relatively reserved malt backdrop, and it comes off as fresh, quenching and very drinkable without being heavy or filling. It would go well on a hot afternoon with some pretzels or other salty bar snacks.  A very well done brew.
