Microburst by Grist House Craft Brewery is being evaluated as a Wild Specialty Beer (Category 28C) from the 2021 BJCP Style guidelines. The beer’s notes are a fruited sour with raspberry, vanilla and local wildflower honey.
This beer opens with a creamy lactic-like aroma provided by the yeast, followed by raspberries and other fruity esters that are primarily berry in character.
Poured into my glass the beer is dark pink and very hazy. The big fluffy head seems cotton candy-like.
The flavor is creamy lactose followed by raspberry fizz. The malt and hop flavors are absent because this a fruit-forward beer. The fruit has a medium-tart finish that is long and invites another sip, while the vanilla flavor is very low and only present in the aftertaste.
Here’s a light-bodied, very highly carbonated beer with low creaminess. The moderate, puckery mouthfeel is on point for the style and adds to its enjoyment.
A very good beer to drink, the balance of flavors are composed of a bit of vanilla, some lactic creaminess, a raspberry flavor and finish. There are hints of sweetness before the tart flavor comes through. If you’re looking for a thirst-quencher that’s easy to drink with a wonderful fruity profile, have a glass of Microburst.
