Tropic Dream by New Realm Brewing is a fruit beer, pure and simple. The impact of the fruit juice being used in this offering is massive – perhaps overwhelming, all things considered. This is being evaluated as a BJCP Category 29A Fruit Beer as per the 2021 guidelines with a Category 1D American Wheat base style.

Intense blood orange character along with guava and passion fruit notes dominate the aroma. Very little of the base wheat beer comes through. The brew has a hazy light golden color with light pinkish hues, and a fair pinkish-white, small-bubbled head with fair retention for the style. 

The flavor is fruit juice. Somewhat alcoholic fruit juice – but the balance between the blood orange, guava and passion fruit is very nice! The intensity of the fruit flavors does decrease through the middle and finish, but the overall flavor and balance remains through the finish. The body is light to medium and the carbonation is moderate. Even with the intensity of the fruit character, the finish is quite dry and prepares the palate well for the next fruity sip.

Tropic Dream is truly a fruit juice lover’s dream. Considering how subtle the American wheat base beer style is, the fresh fruity characters dominate. Even with that, though, the fact that the finish is dry allows this offering to be rather quaffable and refreshing.
