Too Pure To Be Pink Double IPA - 2022 by Wild Leap Brew Co. was judged as BJCP Category 22A, Double IPA. The double IPA style is a direct counterpoint to the “session” beer trend: These intense brews make no compromises in terms of hop character, bitterness and strength. Although they originated as West Coast-style, modern examples can take on any variety of hop.

Too Pure to Be Pink has a juicy, orange-like hop aroma. It also has moderate yeast character that comes off as peppery, akin to some Belgian strong ales. However, its fruity citrus aromas remain dominant throughout. This beer is cloudy and burnt orange in color, with the last ounce from the can being thick with yeast. Its flavor is firmly bitter, and as it warms, it becomes much drier and tongue-coating. The hop flavors are resinous and spicy, and are quite different from how the hops presented in the aroma. A sharp ethanol flavor becomes more and more prominent. Overall, Too Pure to Be Pink delivers the strong hop character and strength anyone would expect from a double IPA, and its juicy citrus aroma will appeal to fans of Northeast-style IPAs.
