Paradise Park 100 by Urban South Brewery is a lo-calorie lager that falls under BJCP category 1A as a Light Lager. This is the same category as the light macros (Bud Light, etc), but it’s certainly a step above in quality despite a similar appearance. It pours a pale straw color with brilliant clarity -- I could see my fingerprint on the other side -- lots of tiny bubbles and a foamy white head that hangs around. The aroma is moderately mild, but definitely more noticeable than most of the style. It’s malt-forward, with a rice-y and grainy malt character similar to rice crackers. The yeast is quite clean with only mild red apple esters. At the back there are very low notes of floral, grassy and lemony hops. The flavor is similarly balanced, with a light toasted rice malt up front and lightly citrusy, grassy hops at the back. The hops also offer a light balance to keep it from being sweet with a semi-dry finish. It has a light body with a smooth, snappy crisp finish. This was a very light and refreshing beer that was crisp and easy-drinking even in the recent cooler days. Definitely one to look for when the weather heats back up too as it would make for a great lawnmower beer.
