Raspberry is the dominant aroma in this Raspberry Saison, followed closely by earthy hops and a spicy phenolic character. There is a huge, crackly, cream-colored head on this deep orange-colored beer. This beer’s flavor is quite different from the aroma with the fruit character, even the raspberry, being largely absent. Instead, there are moderate earthy, floral and spicy hops and phenols with moderately high bitterness. It’s a very dry beer that finishes even drier. The high carbonation adds a nice sting and relieves the earthy flavors from lingering any longer. Although this example began pleasantly enough, its raspberry character didn’t carry through and it lacked the lively flavors expected in the best saisons.
