Moosehead Breweries Announces Plans for Small-Batch Brewery

Moosehead Breweries, the oldest independently owned brewery in Canada (in other words, the Canuck Yuengling), has announced plans for its own small-batch brewery. The facility, which will also include a taproom and retail outlet is expected to be operational by 2017, though the company has not yet found a location beyond the general area of Saint John, New Brunswick. 

“We see this new brewery as a way to express and explore our passion for beer,” said Moosehead president Andrew Oland. “When we looked at how we wanted to more aggressively grow our brands, we knew we had to come to the market with more innovation. In order to do that, we were going to have to do it one way or another with smaller batch sizes.”

2017 will mark the 150th anniversary of the Oland family brewing business, which also operates Hop City Brewing Co., a mid-sized brewery in Ontario. It's been a rocky year for the family, which witnessed a tragic revelation in the form of patricide – former head of the company Dennis Oland was convicted to life in prison for the 2011 murder of father Richard Oland after a highly publicized four-month trial, making way for current president and son Andrew.
