World Footballers Who Have Produced Wine

Wine is a drink that many people enjoy, whether it is alone or with a nice meal. Red, white, and now rose in the middle, there are plenty of choices and with so many different grapes now used to create different tastes, the wine industry continues to come up with new and exciting ideas.

These don’t always come from those who are tied to the industry though, as many famous people have created wines in the past. These include footballers, including those at the top of the game. Andrea Barzagli

Playing in Italy means that you are in one of the greatest countries in the world for producing wine. Andrea Barzagli has is a champion and form Juventus star, but on top of that, he is also a member of a Sicilian winery, called Le Casematte.

He’s produced a Peloro Rosso 70%, which is from Nerello Mascalese and 30% from Nocera, a wine that is said to have the scents of wild berries, combined with liquorice and spicy notes.

Luciano Spalletti

The name Luciano Spalletti is one that football fans will associate with two Italian clubs, Inter Milan and Roma, two clubs which Spalletti managed. Just like the latest beer trends show companies trying to combine beer with specific food dishes, we have seen this in the wine industry for many years.

This wine, called Bordocampo, is produced by mixing Sangiovese and Merlot grapes, and that makes it perfect for Italian sausage dishes and roast dinners.

Andres Iniesta

It is fair to say that Andres Iniesta has been to the top of the footballing summit, scoring the winning goal in a World Cup final to lead his Spain team to victory back in 2010. Now, he’s more focused on wine, something that was handed down to him from his father.

One of many wines he has produced is the D.O. Manchuela, a light and young wine that has been made with fish dishes in mind.

Johan Micoud

The well travelled Micoud has played in Italy, France and Germany, three countries that have a very strong connection with wines, especially France which is where Micoud has setup in the wine industry. Alongside a former team mate, Matthieu Chalme.

A stand out wine from Micoud is the Chateau La Connivence 2017, which comes with a hefty price tag, but is made in the Bordeaux region of France, where some of the best wines in the world come from.

Franz Beckenbauer

The property that Beckenbauer owns in South Africa has an excellent reputation for creating top quality wine. The Lammershoek is where these are created and one to look out for is the Libero n. 5. This win is a complex mix of Syrah, Carignan and Grenache grapes, offering complex tastes for those looking to find something unique.
