Cinnabun Pastry Stout by Garage Brewing Co. is a good example of the dessert style. Though there are a few quibbles, it is a quite deep and complex treat as would be expected for the style. This brew is being evaluated as a 30A Spice, Herb and Vegetable Beer with Imperial Stout as the base beer.

The aroma is surprisingly bready with an acetaldehyde character as you would see in a leavened bread. Strangely, this character seems to dominate over the expected rich malt and spice. It is a very attractive pour having an opaque inky black color with a light tan small bubble head that lingers well into the drink.

The flavor is where this one shines. There is a nice marriage of dark malt, chocolate and cinnamon characters in fantastic balance from the start through to the finish of the drink. The deep chocolate and cinnamon lingers through the aftertaste and says hello to the next sip. Hop flavor and bitterness is quite subtle, delivering a somewhat sweet nature to the flavor, which is somewhat expected for the style. The fermentation is very clean with no acetaldehyde detected in the flavor, unlike the aroma. The body is quite full, and the carbonation is low to moderate. Alcohol is hidden quite well.

Cinnabun Pastry Stout is a quite rich and complex full-flavored treat. This one has a lot going on to excite the palate, with most of it being very good!
