Be Easy - Citra, Monday Night Brewing
Description

Be Easy is a celebration of Citra hops. Our brewers combined Citra Cryo Hops, a highly concentrated powder of hop resins and aromatic oils with traditional hop pellets to create an extraordinary NEIPA. It’s the ultimate expression of Citra, and we’re looking forward to more experiments like this one.

Be Easy - Citra by Monday Night Brewing pours a medium-gold color with opaque clarity of murky and milky clarity due to clearly suspended yeast and hop matter. A meringue-like head of tiny white bubbles is everlasting and leaves a nice lacing on the side of the glass as it is consumed. The initial aroma is a medium juicy sweet tangerine and orange, which reminds me of freshly squeezed, extra-pulp orange juice.

As the beer warms up, a very low pine character comes into the presence of the drinker. There is a very slight vitamin C tablet-like quality in the aroma as well. This is definitely a Citra-hopped beer. On the sip, an initial burst of medium-high tangerine and orange hop flavor is quickly followed by a low honey-like and sweet malt flavor. A medium-low hop bitterness quickly rushes in, but this beer is balanced out by a lightly warming alcohol presence and a slight spiciness left from the suspended hop and yeast matter. As these flavors fade, a residual bitterness manifests itself and leaves an impression of lightly bitter tangerine peel.

This beer has a medium body with medium-high carbonation, which is slightly effervescent on the tongue. There is no astringency but a low alcohol warmth is present as well as a slight “hop burn” left on the back of the throat. Overall, this is a very good NEIPA, which is a real showcase for Citra in both the aroma and flavor. The spiciness from the suspended matter in the beer detracts from the soft aspect of the style, though a touch of age would be nice to drop this out of suspension and help round this beer out.
