New York's pioneering farm cidery, Nine Pin Ciderworks, has recently announced its generous donation of over $11,000 in support of the Adirondack Mountain Club's Summit Steward Program. The contribution was made possible through the highly successful 2022 26er Challenge, and the announcement was made during Nine Pin's much-anticipated bi-annual 26er Challenge closing party on Saturday, June 17. The lively block party, brimming with excitement, featured a splendid array of new ciders, delectable food trucks, an engaging photo booth, and an informative booth hosted by the Adirondack Mountain Club.
A significant portion of the sales generated from the 26 specially crafted ciders, exclusive to the 26er Challenge, will be donated to the Adirondack Mountain Club's Summit Stewardship Program. This invaluable initiative aims to educate the public about the intricate alpine ecosystems, meticulously maintain trails situated above the treeline in the Adirondack Park, and conduct vital scientific research.
The inception of the 26er Challenge dates back to 2016 when Nine Pin Ciderworks first introduced this captivating event. With this challenge, cider enthusiasts are encouraged to sample and savor 26 distinct hard ciders created exclusively for this purpose within a year's timeframe. Over the years, the 26er Challenge has witnessed remarkable growth, evolving from nearly 400 enthusiastic participants completing the program to an astounding number of over 1,700 individuals in 2022 alone.
“As the number of participants soared this year, we were able to significantly increase this year’s contribution to the Adirondack Mountain Club as well. Although the rain threatened to shutter the party, thanks to the Upstate heartiness of Nine Pin, the Adirondack Mountain Club, and the 26ers, everyone still came out to celebrate,” said Alejandro del Peral, co-founder and head cidermaker.
The alliance between Nine Pin Ciderworks and the Adirondack Mountain Club's Summit Steward Program showcases their shared dedication to the preservation and appreciation of nature's wonders. By contributing a substantial donation of over $11,000, Nine Pin Ciderworks is reinforcing its commitment to fostering awareness and sustainable practices within the community.
“Nine Pin Cider is not only a tremendous local family-owned business, but an incredible example of how businesses can partner with non-profits like ADK to ensure that New York’s public lands are protected for future generations," said Michael Barrett, executive director, Adirondack Mountain Club.
As Nine Pin Ciderworks continues its tradition of hosting the bi-annual 26er Challenge, cider aficionados eagerly anticipate the unveiling of unique and tantalizing flavors, all while supporting a worthy cause. The success of this program serves as a testament to Nine Pin Ciderworks' unwavering commitment to both cider craftsmanship and environmental stewardship. With each sip of the 26er Challenge ciders, participants are not only indulging their taste buds but also actively contributing to the preservation and protection of the majestic Adirondack Mountain region.
