BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
This has been the base beer for small batching when we are trying to study the character of new hop varieties, it's recipe that's been in our stash for years, I think I originally came up with while I was at the Siebel Institute in Chicago, I had been talking to other brewers about lauter geometry in tanks and naturally lagers came up. One day our cellarman Mike mentioned we should just brew it once as a straight up Pilsner and try to really zero in on it. So we did several runs and it slowly became a popular beer for our taproom.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
I specifically enjoy the clarity, the crisp hop profile and the unique flavor that you only get from lager yeast. We call it "true" beer flavor here at the brewery. There is nothing to hide behind, there is touch of sweetness from the Munich malt and that traditional grainy 6 row flavor just makes it right.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
The beers name is an homage to the York Motorcar Company that existed in York County, PA. They produced luxury sedans, "Pullmans", from 1907 to 1915. Most notably a bizarre 6 wheel model that was more of a conversation piece than a functional road worthy car. The original building is still in York today. We wanted to honor that and bring awareness to a cool piece of history.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
Honestly yeah, It's moderate in alcohol and doesn't wear out your pallet. Typically it dominates the boat cooler in the summer.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Authentic, timeless beer that's never out of place in any setting.

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
After we brewed the beer a gentleman came to the brewery very eager to try Pullman, come to find out he owns 1 of the 25 remaining cars in the country. He lives in York County and was beyond excited to add some Pullman swag to his collection of memorabilia. Sharing stories like that are the moments that reaffirm why I got into brewing.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
We often enjoy this beer with southern style BBQ, there's nothing like the warm summer air, smoked meat and a cool crisp lager.
