Gate City Brewing Co. in Roswell, Georgia has announced a new distillery expansion at its downtown Roswell location. Full details are below.
The Artillery Room — historic Roswell’s newest gathering space and craft cocktail experience. The newly renovated 3,700 square foot space boasts upstairs loft seating and an outdoor terrace for the community to enjoy. The expansive roll-up garage door opening on Canton Street becomes the ‘gateway’ to the brewery’s compound and Gate City Taproom. This project had been dreamt of by owners Pat Rains and Brian Borngesser for years before the perfect opportunity arose. Through resilient ambition, they began to see their dreams come true in a way that honors both the history and the potential of this new gathering space.
Perhaps the most interesting part about this expansion is the historical relevance of the building. Owner Pat Rains said about the history, “‘The Artillery Room’ at Gate City pays respect to the history of the building and to those who came before us. 932 Canton Street was initially part of the Ford Dealership compound. Then in the ‘70s, Ed Mertimer opened the space as Ed’s Gun & Tackle, which operated until the great fire of 1984. One of the worst in Roswell history, the fire posed a unique threat to first responders due to the ammunition inside at the time — a Roswell fireman took a bullet during the incident and thankfully survived.”
The Artillery Room pays tribute to the history of the space both in name and in structure. During renovations, the history behind the walls was discovered. The original exposed brick and design elements are where local history, art, and spirits merge to create a rustic, inviting, and down-to-earth space that focuses on community and craft cocktails. In short, this historic landmark embodies the spirit of the city and will be leaving a local legacy for all patrons to enjoy.
The Artillery Room at Gate City supports a magnetic and dynamic culture within the city of Roswell. Our eight house-crafted cocktails are available on draft, as well as Gate City's packaged beer providing the community with a remarkable drink menu with unshakable, independent local roots.
Whether enjoying cocktails in the loft, terrace, or lounge, the Artillery Room's historic charm with original brick walls, exposed beams, gallery art, and ambient lighting matches the sophistication of each seasonally rotated craft cocktail.
