We spoke with Collective Arts Brewing Brewmaster Ryan Morrow about Jam Up The Mash.
BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
I came up with this concept for a recipe 3 years ago. We initially launched it as a limited release, but there was high demand to bring back and to make it available year round.
BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
There is a bright, peachy fruitiness on the nose and juicy peach flavor reminiscent of sour fuzzy peaches!
BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
There is a small team that works together to name beers at Collective Arts, we collect inspiration from various places and keep adding to a long list of name ideas, we then work together on a short list when we have a beer to name. Three or so months after we initially released this beer as ‘Mash Up The Jam’ we were contacted by a brewery that had a mix pack in the market called ‘Mash Up. Threatened with the idea of restarting this naming process we flipped it around, thus, Jam Up The Mash was born.
BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
Tough call, but I might have to stick to lagers if I were to survive!
BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Gotta say sour fuzzy peaches again, but far more refreshing!
BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
The name change and legal challenge we faced was really the main story around this beer. But we didn’t really make a lot of noise when we had to, just a quiet flip that worked in our favor!
BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Something that is a little salty and a little sweet like Kung Pao chicken!
