Cape May Brewing Co. Celebrates 325 of Cape May County With Follow The Gull IPA

Cape May Brewing Company, the Jersey Shore’s premier local brewery, is pleased to announce an exciting collaboration with the Cape May County Department of Tourism to celebrate the county’s 325th anniversary. Follow the Gull -- an IPA with 325 pounds of hops and 3,250 pounds of malt -- will be available at better bars and restaurants throughout New Jersey beginning May 11th.

“It’s an honor to be asked by anyone to help them celebrate a milestone,” says president and co-owner Ryan Krill. “It’s an even greater honor to be asked by our own county. Cape May is such an important part of who we are at CMBC, and asking us to help celebrate this occasion is a recognition of how important we are to the community.”

Cape May County was created on November 12, 1692, by an Act of the General Assembly of the Province of West New Jersey, along with Burlington, Gloucester, and Salem counties. The original boundary encompassed all of the peninsula of Cape May, as well as parts of present-day Cumberland and Atlantic counties, with the county taking its present form in 1891.

Since then, Cape May County has become one of the Jersey Shore’s premier destinations, with its seven shore towns linked by the scenic Ocean Drive. Travelers are directed from Cape May to Atlantic City by signs that ask adventurers to Follow the Gull, making it the perfect name for a commemorative beer.

This exceptionally hoppy IPA commemorates the founding of Cape May County with 325 pounds of hops and 3,250 pounds of malt. Intensely juicy, tropical, and crushable, this 5.5% ABV hop bomb is brewed with 5.5 pounds of Citra, El Dorado, Amarillo, Cascade, and Azacca hops per gallon.

“We wanted to make the 325th anniversary something special,” says Diane Wieland of the Cape May County Department of Tourism, “and Cape May Brewing Company makes such an effort to be part of the community, we thought it was a natural fit.”

The public is invited to an official dedication at Cape May Brewing Company, 1288 Hornet Road in the Cape May Airport, onFriday, May 12, at 4pm, during the height of Cape May Tourism Week. There, revelers will be able to mingle with the brewery’s co-owners, officials from the Department of Tourism, and the county’s freeholders.

Follow the Gull will be available at Cape May Brew Co.’s Tasting Room and at better bars and restaurants throughout Cape May County beginning May 11th, with the expectation that it will be pouring throughout the summer season.
