Belching Beaver Brewery Brewmaster Troy Smith Talks Beavers Milk Nitro

Belching Beaver Brewery Brewmaster Troy Smith Talks Beavers Milk Nitro

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
I created this recipe; it was one of the first beers we produced when we opened in 2012.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
My favorite part of this beer is its drinkability. It’s silky-smooth with notes of roasted coffee and chocolate. This beer is dark as night and can be intimidating because of its color. But take a sip and you’ll realize just how smooth it drinks. Like they say, “don’t judge a book by its cover.”

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
The beer is named Beavers Milk Stout because we use lactose sugar, which is derived from milk. The lactose does not ferment out like most of the sugars so it adds sweetness to the beer.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
This is not that beer for me. If I were on an island with one beer it would most likely be a Mexican Lager. Light, refreshing, and keeps you hydrated while still getting a little buzz.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Silky-smooth stout with hints of chocolate and coffee.

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
Sure do, when I made this beer for the first time, one of our partners tasted the beer while I wasn’t there. He said something along the lines of “This isn’t a real stout it tastes too light, we should call it a light stout or something.” But this beer is true to style, and has become one of our best sellers. It’s also the base beer for our Peanut Butter Milk Stout.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
I’d say, chicken mole because the sweet chocolate from the mole blends well with the smoky sweetness from the beer.

Curious about these coffee flavored milk stouts. Does this one have any caffeine content to it? Just dont want it keeping me up all night if I have a few.
