Maine-based Baxter Brewing Co. has announced that Andrew Sheffield, formerly of New Belgium Brewing and Oskar Blues, will become its new Director of Brewing Operations. For all the details, see below:
With tremendous growth and innovation; and unparalleled commitment to quality and constant improvement, comes the need to hire greatly. Or so they say. Therefore, we at Baxter Brewing Co. couldn’t be more excited to announce the acquisition of a new Director of Brewing Operations: Andrew Sheffield.
Andrew will be joining the Baxter team in May, having just completed a stint on the senior brewing team at New Belgium Brewing in Fort Collins, Colorado – the nation’s 4th largest craft brewery – and Oskar Blues (10th largest craft brewery, for those keeping score) before that.
“After more than a decade of making wine and beer, for twelve different producers on three continents, I couldn’t be more excited than to be coming to Lewiston and Baxter Brewing Company”, said Sheffield. “This is a bit of a homecoming for me, as I will join my Mom and Step-Dad who relocated to Lewiston a few years ago.”
“As great as it is to be around family when you have two small kids like I do,” he continued, “I would never have left Colorado and New Belgium if I didn’t think that Baxter and the Lewiston/Auburn area did not have an incredibly bright future!
Luke [Livingston, Founder] and the whole Baxter team have done a fantastic job bringing the brewery from an idea to a major contributor to Maine’s excellent craft beer scene. I am looking forward to continuing this work and being able to contribute to the team as Baxter Brewing makes its next giant steps forward.”
Sheffield will have big shoes to fill, certainly, as he’ll be assuming the seat recently vacated by Ben Low, who had been at Baxter’s brewing helm since November of 2011 and created nearly all of the company’s beers that adorn store shelves and tap lines today. But we think he’s ready for the challenge!
“I love getting nerdy and getting dirty equally, so you are just as likely to catch me stomping in muck boots as find me hunched over a microscope. I look forward to getting involved in the community and getting to know all the Baxter faithful”, said Andrew. “See you soon!
