What's in a name? The number Four of course:
1 - Bull Sluice is a legendary rapid of the Chattooga River on the South Carolina and Georgia border. It was featured in the Academy Award winning film Deliverance.
2 - Bull Sluice Rapid is a benchmark Class IV rapid, as rated by American Whitewater.
3 - Many boaters who run the narrower and more dangerous Section 4 on the Chattooga River will first run Bull Sluice before continuing downstream, making the rapid the de facto start of the fourth and final section of the river.
4 - This "Quad" started in the mind of Tom Davis as American oak whiskey barrels from Four Roses Whiskey arrived at the Brewery. Tom wanted to create something special. Fermenting for close to a year, in these barrels, until the perfect time. This
Driftwood Series craft beer comes in at 10% ABV.
Retail Release:
Thomas Creek Brewery Bull Sluice Quad will be available at select retail, restaurants, and tap rooms throughout South Carolina, the Southeastern United States, and Pennsylvania in 750 ML ounce bottles and 5.16 gallon kegs starting December 8, 2016 while supplies last in the marketplace.
A brief history of Thomas Creek Driftwood Series:
Wood has always been important to the brewing process and over time Thomas Creek has acquired whiskey, rum, wine, and other wood barrels. To showcase this special fermentation process at our brewery we are rolling out the Driftwood Series Craft Beers. In short, any beer that spends time in a wood barrel will be part of the Driftwood Series beers. We are extremely excited to roll out Bull Sluice Quadruple Ale as the first in this series. Look for our Mixed Cultured Belgian Ale up next.
A brief history of Quadruple Belgian Ales:
Inspired by generations past Trappist brewers of Belgium, a Quadrupel is a Belgian style ale of legendary strength with a bold flavor compared to its close relative Dubbel and Tripel. Quads are typically a darker beer that ranges within the deep red, brown and garnet hues. They are always full bodied with a malty palate.
